3:00 PM Unknown

The first passenger steel hull boat was acquired by SRN Fast Seacrafts, Inc. and was named M/V Weesam Express was derived from the name of the youngest son of Hadji Wahab Amil, the President and Chairman of the company, whose name was Weesam Amil.

The sea craft is fully enclosed air-conditioned atmosphere, with 278 comfortable/reclining seats, equipped with the latest safety and navigational implement, powered by 2 x 2250 HP Mitsubishi Marine Engines, has a cruising speed of 30 knots, a canteen to cater to passenger’s snack, well-trained complement to attend to the passenger’s needs. The inaugural voyage in September 21, 1997 serviced the route of Zamboanga City to Jolo, Sulu since the regular airplane flight to Jolo, Sulu was regularly cancelled. Aside from the higher fare, passengers choose to take the cheaper alternative, which is the M/V Weesam Express and advantageously the travel time takes only three hours.

Later on, the route to Ipil, Zamboanga del Sur was added to the trip.

As expansion became the trend, the M/V Weesam Express 3 was acquired in March 1999 and serviced the route of Zamboanga City to Pagadian City. This vessel has a fully enclosed air-conditioned atmosphere, with 168 comfortable/reclining seats, powered by 2 x 1500 HP Caterpillar DITA 3512 Marine Engines, has a cruising speed of 30 knots, with complete or latest safety and navigational implements, well-trained complements to attend to the needs of the riding public, and a canteen to cater to the snacks of the passengers. Later on, the route to Subanipa, Zamboanga del Sur was included to the trip.

By December 1999, the M/V Weesam Express was acquired to augment the fleet which serviced the route of Zamboanga City to Bongao, Tawi Tawi. This vessel has a fully enclosed air-conditioned atmosphere, has 288 comfortable reclining seats, equipped with the latest safety and navigational implements, well-trained complement to serve the needs of the passengers, a canteen to cater to the snacks of passengers, powered by 2 x 2400 HP Caterpillar DITA 3516 Marine Engines, and has a cruising speed of 30 knots. Later on, this vessel served the BIMP-EAGA route or particularly the routes of Zamboanga City to Bongao and Tawi-Tawi to Sandakan, Sabah, Malaysia.
